Gaudenzi Guitars

Gaudenzi Guitars: signature lutherie and avant-garde

Gaudenzi Guitars Mauro GaudenzThe trajectory of Gaudenzi Guitars begins within the walls of the family garage in Cattolica, where Mauro Gaudenzi breathed the scent of wood since childhood and learned the fundamentals of carpentry from his father. The lutherie spark ignited twenty years ago when, starting with a pickup gifted by a friend, he built his first T-style electric guitar. From that moment, the home workshop transformed into a laboratory of continuous research.

In 2016, Gaudenzi Guitars was officially born, a business that in 2026 – exactly ten years after its opening – moved to the new and functional space on Via Emilia Romagna 41, in the historic premises of a former record store. Mauro’s construction philosophy is based on a core concept: the instrument must not be a static, mass-produced object, but an anatomical extension of the musician, custom-designed to develop an unbreakable bond and improve over time. Through the skillful use of hearing, touch, and intuition, Gaudenzi reinterprets the raw material to overcome the limits of standard geometries, offering instruments characterized by impeccable aesthetic elegance and a playability suited for “all hands”.

The collection

Gaudenzi Guitars Mauro Gaudenzi CollectionThe Gaudenzi Guitars catalog ranges with ease between the acoustic and electric universes, distinguishing itself with harmonious lines and a sober design that enhances the natural beauty of bare woods:

  • Acoustic Guitars (Concert Line): These represent the true strength and acoustic excellence of the workshop. Designed to offer superior dynamic response and perfect tonal balance, they are ideal for both recording studio use and live performances.
  • Semi-Acoustic and Chambered Guitars (Swallow Model): Also known as the “swallow”, this model stands out for its refined style, elegant shapes, and effective management of internal resonances, offering warm, feedback-resistant tones.
  • Custom Electric Guitars and Basses: Solid-body and personalized instruments built to specification, characterized by innovative structural adjustments that improve ergonomics and access to the highest registers.

Construction philosophy, techniques, and materials

Gaudenzi Guitars Mauro Gaudenzi PhilosophyMauro Gaudenzi combines a profound respect for the classic lines of the lutherie tradition with engineering solutions aimed at solving the historical mechanical and acoustic problems of stringed instruments:

  • Fibers and Wood Selection: The crafting of the soundboard and body starts with a meticulous analysis of the fiber grain and density. Each piece of wood is individually interpreted to understand its resonance potential and flexibility before cutting.
  • Assembly System and Neck-to-Body Joint: To counteract structural tensions (especially critical on acoustic guitars), Gaudenzi uses a cross-grain gluing technique of two or more woods, neutralizing the natural rotational and hygroscopic movements of the material. Added to this is a special internal neck reinforcement designed to prevent swelling in the joint area with the soundbox, guaranteeing an optimal ratio between rigidity and elasticity, and an ideal transmission of vibrations.
  • Bare Wood Aesthetics: The finish is conceived to protect the instrument without suffocating it. The luthier favors visible natural textures and grains, coupled with thin, clean coats of varnish that allow the soundboard to “breathe” and vibrate freely.

Collaborations and recognitions

Gaudenzi Guitars Mauro Gaudenzi CollaborationsThe international authority of Gaudenzi Guitars has been cemented by epochal encounters. During an Italian tour, the legendary fingerpicking master Tommy Emmanuel extensively tested a newly crafted acoustic from the Concert line, defining it as the best guitar he had played since being in Italy and praising the accessibility of its neck.

The roster of musicians who have chosen and purchased Gaudenzi instruments unites the rock avant-garde with big names in pop and auteur music:

  • Snah (Motorpsycho), who adopted the Swallow semi-acoustic.
  • Vinicio Capossela, icon of Italian auteur music.
  • Raffaele “Rufio” Littorio (guitarist for Emma Marrone) and Negrita, who brought the Gaudenzi acoustic to television on Rai 3 (on the show Via dei Matti).
  • Achille Lauro, Ultimo, and Andy Vargas (historic singer for Carlos Santana).

Direct experience

Gaudenzi configures the workshop as a place of cultural exchange between the artisan and the musician:

  • Consulting and Custom Construction: A personalized journey where the buyer communicates directly with the luthier to define woods, hardware, and advanced electronics.
  • Repair, Maintenance, and Restoration: A high-precision technical support service that attracts customers and shipments from all over Italy, becoming a pillar of the business.
