Colombo Audio Electronics: The Electronic Alchemy Between Sound and Work of ArtColombo Audio Electronics Luca Colombo

Luca Colombo is an electronics technician and guitarist who transformed an early passion into an excellence of Italian boutique gear. After graduating in 2002, Luca began building pedals for personal need and for friends, until officially founding Colombo Audio Electronics in 2018 in Casorate Primo (PV). His dual identity as a technician and musician gives him a unique advantage: the ability to test every circuit “in the field”, viscerally understanding what a player truly needs.

For Luca, a pedal is not just a signal processor, but an unbreakable bond between the soul of the musician and their instrument. His story is marked by the desire to escape the homogenization of the mass market to offer instruments that have their own “personality”, built with the care and patience that only pure craftsmanship can guarantee.

The Colombo Audio Electronics catalog is a journey through the golden eras of tone, with over thirty original products ranging from historical reinterpretations to radical innovations.

Plexi Breed: A celebration of the legendary Marshall “Plexi” sound. Thanks to a three-position switch, it allows you to sweep through the tonal responses of the JTM45, 1959, and 1987 models, with the ability to virtually “jumper” the channels.

  • Lead Trilogy: An analog distortion that encapsulates three decades of British history (JCM800, JCM900, and Silver Jubilee), offering all the sustain and compression of the most iconic hi-gain heads.
  • Rocker 83: A pedal born to capture the nostalgic and hyper-defined sound of Tom Scholz’s Rockman X100, the very essence of ’80s guitar tone.
  • Utopia Overdrive: Designed to be the ultimate overdrive, it offers three modes (Classic, Hot, Ultra) inspired by cornerstones like the TS808, the Klon Centaur, and the OCD.
  • Via Lattea: The evolution of the universal overdrive, which adds a “Clean” control to blend the clean signal with the distorted one, preserving the original attack and dynamics.
  • Tribute Series (Mr. Deaky & T.Boost Relic): Products specifically dedicated to the sounds of Queen and Brian May, including the tribute to the legendary Deacy Amp and the hand-aged Treble Booster.
  • Southern Stalker: A dual unit combining a specific Booster with a Preamp that emulates the break-up of Fender Blackface amps, ideal for Southern Rock and Blues.

Construction philosophy, techniques, and materialsMaterials Guitar Pedal Detail Colombo Audio Electronics Luca Colombo

The fundamental distinction of Colombo Audio Electronics lies in the total rejection of automation. Luca builds every piece with a philosophy he defines as an “alternative to consumption”.

  • Point-to-Point Wiring: Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are not used. Every circuit is built entirely by hand on strip boards with direct wiring. This technique reduces parasitic capacitive effects and makes every pedal infinitely customizable and repairable.
  • Selected Materials: The chassis are made of aluminum, ergal, or stainless steel sourced from the Netherlands. A touch of eco-sustainability is provided by the use of Italian recycled paper and cardboard for the packaging.
  • Artistic Painting: Luca uses acrylic enamels with the “pre-1965” technique, the same used on Custom Shop guitars. Every pedal is a unique piece: the finishes are designed to age along with the musician, bearing the marks and memories of live performances.
  • Ethical Components: Only lead-free tin is used, complying with current regulations while maintaining the traditional manufacturing systems of the past.

Direct experience

Entering the Colombo Audio Electronics world means having a direct line with the artisan. Luca offers a dedicated consulting service to guide the musician in choosing or creating their ideal sound.

It is possible to take a guided tour of the workshop in Casorate Primo (PV), where you can witness the birth of a pedal from the drilling of the chassis to the final test. The business stands out for a very high degree of customization: every customer can request structural modifications, custom graphics, or specific connector layouts, making their pedal a truly bespoke object.

At Colombo Audio Electronics, the waiting time for construction is considered part of the value: it is the time necessary for passion and technique to transform into the instrument the musician has always dreamed of.
