The Eruption by Colombo Audio Electronics is not just a distortion pedal; it is the result of a sonic obsession. The project was born with the goal of recreating the famous “Brown Sound” of Eddie Van Halen, that unique tone that characterized the band’s first six iconic albums. For years, legends of esoteric modifications surrounded Eddie’s famous ’68 Plexi head, when in reality the secret lay in a bold use of undervolting via a Variac transformer. Respecting the historical jealousy that the guitarist felt for his technical secrets, Luca Colombo developed the Eruption relying exclusively on his ear and the original electronic design. The result is a pedal capable of evoking that undervolted, warm, and epic saturation, without having to own a bulky, tube-damaging, and prohibitively expensive rig.
Original Circuit: Unlike many “clones” on the market, the Eruption boasts a proprietary circuit developed from scratch. It does not replicate a specific device, but simulates the physical behavior of a Marshall amplifier pushed to the limit and worked with a Variac.
Sound Character: The pedal returns an organic distortion, rich in harmonics and with that particular “soft” but defined attack typical of the Brown Sound. It is designed to be dynamic, responding to guitar controls and the musician’s touch.
Design and Philosophy: The unit is designed to offer a plug-and-play solution. Thanks to the accurate study of frequencies, it allows you to obtain 70s and 80s hard-rock sounds with extreme ease, maintaining a transparency that does not choke the character of the guitar used.
Boutique Construction: Each pedal is made with selected components to ensure low background noise and optimal frequency response, enclosed in a robust chassis with an essential look.
