Black Kat Devices
The Pedals of Black Kat Devices
Black Kat Devices is the artisanal project of Francesco Cremonese, an electronic technician and musician with over 17 years of experience. He combines a solid background in audio electronics with a radically new vision of the guitar pedal: lighter, sustainable, compact, and with a distinctive design. Each device is designed to meet the sound needs of the contemporary musician with an innovative and conscious spirit.
The workshop is based in Rome and is an independent studio where every pedal is created from scratch, thanks to fully internal design both mechanically and electronically. The result? Unique devices, 3D printed, lightweight, robust, and visually original.
The Collection
We craft handmade pedals for guitar and bass, entirely built by hand in limited runs. Annual production ranges between 10 and 50 units, with extensive customization options. Each model is named after an animal, emphasizing the connection between nature, creativity, and sonic experimentation.
Construction Philosophy, Techniques, and Materials
Black Kat Devices adopts a deeply ecological and innovative approach. The pedals are printed in PLA, a biopolymer derived from corn, completely eliminating the use of industrial metals and plastics. This material allows for pedals that are much lighter (max 180g) and durable. The enclosures are designed for snap-fit assembly, avoiding the use of screws (except for those on the lid).
The process is based on 3D printing and an integrated electronic-mechanical design, allowing total expressive freedom in design, sound quality, and ergonomics. Each pedal is a microcosm of sonic and visual creativity.
Collaborations and Recognitions
Black Kat Devices actively collaborates with artists and workshops in the Italian independent scene, including Giuvazza, Ricciolino Guitars, Mò Pedali, Andrea Marchesino, Danilo Gallo, Not Found Lab, Claudio Cossu, and many others. A dynamic community of experimenters sharing the vision of a free, light, and sustainable sound.
Direct Experience
Visits to the workshop are not available, but it is possible to contact Francesco directly for consultations on custom projects, repairs, or bespoke developments.
