The harpsichord is a musical instrument with a double keyboard<\/strong>, consisting of a series of metal strings (usually copper) struck by small wooden bars called hammers<\/strong>. When a key is pressed on the keyboard, the hammer is moved by a mechanical mechanism and strikes the corresponding string, producing a sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The harpsichord’s strings are stretched across a wooden frame contained within a soundboard, which can be rectangular, semicircular, or drop-shaped. The keyboard is divided into two sections: the upper “manual<\/strong>,” which contains the higher-pitched strings, and the lower “manual<\/strong>,” which holds the lower-pitched strings. The keys of the harpsichord are typically made of ebony and ivory, and the sound produced is very bright. It was one of the most popular instruments of the Baroque era<\/strong>, and many of the period\u2019s greatest composers, such as Johann Sebastian Bach, wrote works for the harpsichord that remain iconic to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
