The Creations of Daniele Tonarelli

Daniele Tonarelli Luthiery

Daniele Tonarelli, a master luthier from Cremona since 1997, builds violins, violas, and cellos following the classical tradition of Cremonese violin making, a UNESCO World Heritage.
Every instrument begins with a dream: owning a handcrafted piece, made entirely in Italy, designed to fully express the musician’s skills and artistic taste.

In his Cremona workshop, Daniele creates unique instruments, designed in every detail to match the personality and needs of each musician — whether a professional or an enthusiast.

Collection and Customization

String Instrument Collection Daniele Tonarelli
Tonarelli instruments are crafted to deliver a personal and unmistakable sound. A comfortable neck, perfect balance, and refined timbre: everything is made with the utmost care and passion. The collection includes:

  • Violins: classic or antiqued, inspired by models from Amati, Stradivari, Guarneri, and Guadagnini.
  • Violas: designed for powerful, warm tones rich in harmonics.
  • Cellos: offering dynamic projection and a strong timbral personality.

A dedicated student line is also available, crafted by Daniele’s collaborators — including Davide Pizzolato — under his direct supervision.

Philosophy and Materials

Tonarelli Philosophy and Materials

The creation of each instrument follows a precise ritual. Daniele personally oversees every phase, from wood thicknessing to varnishing:

  • Flamed Balkan maple for back, ribs, and neck — seasoned for over 12 years.
  • Red spruce from Val di Fiemme for the soundboard — a historic Cremonese violin-making wood.
  • Oil or alcohol varnishes: artisan blends for protection and tonal response.

Every instrument is unique: no two Tonarelli pieces are identical. The scroll is the luthier’s artistic signature, customized for each creation.
