La Bottega del Suono di Pasquale Sardone

The Cremonese Workshop of Pasquale Sardone

Pasquale Sardone Luthiery

In the heart of Cremona, the workshop of Pasquale Sardone represents a perfect fusion between the tradition of the Cremonese school of violin making and a contemporary vision dedicated to material experimentation and tonal research. His entirely handmade production is shaped by continuous study and refinement, rooted in classical schools yet open to modern influences, always aiming for the perfect balance between form and sound.

The Collection

Pasquale Sardone Violin Viola Cello Collection - La bottega del Suono - Cremona
The Sardone collection stands out for the variety of instruments crafted — violins, violas, cellos, and double basses — and for the almost obsessive attention to material selection and finishing. Among the instruments produced:

  • Stradivari Violins: models inspired by the classical masterpiece, made with selected woods and oil varnish, offering a dense sound and excellent projection.
  • F. Garimberti Violins: historically informed reinterpretations with enhanced tonal response and refined varnishing.
  • Ruggeri Cellos: instruments dedicated to the low-register family, built with premium woods and high-end finishes.
  • Violas and Double Basses: crafted with the same technical care, using selected woods such as black willow, black poplar, flamed maple, pearwood, and spruce.

Each instrument is the result of extensive research into vibration, wood species, and acoustic response. Material experimentation, hand craftsmanship, and meticulous finishing give the Sardone collection a strong and recognizable identity.

Construction Philosophy, Techniques and Materials

Pasquale Sardone Construction Philosophy and Techniques

Sardone’s construction philosophy is founded on three core pillars: full craftsmanship, controlled experimentation, and the highest material quality.

  • Selected and seasoned woods: black willow for ribs and back, black poplar (cipressino) for structural elements, flamed maple for back/ribs/neck, pearwood for ribs/backs, and the ever-reliable spruce for soundboards — each chosen for its specific tonal properties.
  • Entirely hand-crafted construction: every phase — shaping, arching, oil or spirit varnishing — is executed by hand, without machinery, in the spirit of the Cremonese tradition.
  • Tonal and aesthetic research: the workshop creates unique instruments rich in detail, with a focus on the balance between visual beauty and sonic performance, experimenting with materials and finishes to achieve the “perfect balance between form and sound.”

This artisanal care, combined with a contemporary outlook, ensures that each instrument becomes not only visually refined but also a sonic entity with its own character and personality.
