The Creations of Luca Zerilli

Luca Zerilli Luthier

The story of Liuteria Zerilli is rooted in the passion for music and wood of Luca Zerilli, a master luthier from Friuli who has transformed his love for sound into art. After studying double bass at the Conservatory of Udine and completing a university program in Web and Multimedia Technologies, Luca devoted himself to violin making by attending the “Bottega di Parma” under master Desiderio Quercetani. In 2019, he opened his workshop in Udine, creating unique string instruments appreciated worldwide.

His vision blends rigorous craftsmanship, excellent materials, and an elegant yet functional aesthetic: every violin, viola, cello, or double bass is a unique piece capable of moving musicians through both its appearance and its sound quality.

The Collection

Luca Zerilli String Instrument Collection
The Zerilli collection includes high-quality string instruments, fully customized according to the musician’s needs:

  • Violins: featuring a spruce top from Val Canale and flamed maple back. Meticulous arching work shapes the sound with precision and dynamic response.
  • Violas: personalized models balancing warm tone and depth, with a refined and understated aesthetic.
  • Cellos: crafted to serve both soloists and orchestral players, combining powerful sound and strong projection.
  • Double Basses: designed with obsessive attention to thickness and material selection for rich, balanced resonance.

Each instrument is made using wood air-dried for at least five years, ensuring natural resonance and unmatched long-term reliability.

Construction Philosophy, Techniques, and Materials

Certificate Violins Luca Zerilli Luthier – Philosophy and Quality Guarantee

For Luca Zerilli, building an instrument is an act of love for music and for raw materials:

  • Wood selection: spruce from Val Canale for the top, flamed maple for back and ribs, ebony for fingerboard, pegs, and chinrest.
  • Fully manual process: planing, shaping, and arching done entirely by hand for complete control over every curve and thickness.
  • Custom thicknessing: measured with calipers, ranging from 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm to match the desired tonal response.
  • Every instrument comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Luca works independently, favouring hand tools over modern machinery. Each violin reflects his philosophy: authenticity, balance, and natural resonance.
