The Relicworks series by Barn Guitars is a tribute to the history of rock, captured in instruments with a worn and vibrant aesthetic. Observing the photos, one can perceive the authenticity of the aged finishes: from the subtle cracks of the soft relic to the deep abrasions of the heavy relic, every mark tells a fictitious but incredibly realistic story. Strapping on a Relicworks means possessing an instrument that has the soul and feel of an original vintage, but with the reliability and power of a modern boutique guitar. Technical Specs
Body and Neck: Instruments assembled using undisputed quality parts selected for resonance and stability, or built entirely by hand in lutherie. The shapes are inspired by iconic T-style and S-style designs, guaranteeing a familiar feel and proven ergonomics. Also available in electric bass version.
Finish (Agedworks): The true flagship of the series. Finishes executed to faithfully replicate the wear of time, available in various degrees of aging: Aged (light matting), Soft Relic (small dings and checking of the paint), and Heavy Relic (large wear zones with exposed wood and oxidized hardware).
Pickups: Equipped with handcrafted Barn Pickups, the beating heart of the instrument. The single coils, hand-wound “as they used to do it,” use Alnico 5 magnets and are covered in vintage cloth. They offer a crisp, crystalline sound, faithful to the true vintage tone. Upon specific request, the series can also mount humbuckers or P90s.
Electronics: Top-level wiring. For single coils, the winding is RW/RP (Reverse Wound/Reverse Polarity) to ensure hum cancellation in intermediate positions. Possibility to customize the Kohm ratings of the pickups to calibrate the output to the musician’s needs.
Coil Treatment: The pickup coils are completely sealed in a bath of beeswax and paraffin, ensuring clean sound reproduction free of microphonic interference.
Hardware: Components selected and subjected to accelerated aging processes to perfectly match the relic level of the body and neck, while ensuring perfect functionality and tuning stability.
